The Bloodburn was a magic plague that has appeared in the Nortander realm after the Mage Wars have ended. It was also known as the Song of the Wight because sometimes people heard a whispering voice that seemed to be singing in an unknown language.

It is by far the most dangerous plague Eo has seen since the Red Fever.

It corrupts a person's blood, hence the name. It starts with a light fever and some nausea and within a week, people will bleed from their mouths and their eyes.

Symptoms of the living[]

Bloodburn Symptoms

A human corpse with the typical blisters and wounds caused by Bloodburn.

The symptoms were confusion, visible skin reactions such as bleeding and blisters and was ultimately resulting in death. According to Angar Arandir the plague seemed to be affecting healthy or already ill persons or young and olds at random and ignores quarantine. Also there was no known cure for it.

Effects on the (un)dead[]

When the Corporal traveled to Aonir's Blade he noticed that the Song of Wight was even able to awaken the souls of persons long dead. When the Song was heard lots of undead arose from their graves which posed a threat to the Iron Falcons at Aonir's Blade to such an extend they had to give up their fortress. Luckily the Corporal was able to subdue those undead and helped them to regain control of the fortress and the imprisoned Fial Darg.

Discovery of the plague[]

Sentenza's command[]

Lord Marshal Angar Arandir sent off the Corporal under direct command of Sentenza Noria to Liannon after having heard of an outbreak in Liannon. When arriving there General Noria attempted to purge the village by slaughtering all villages. He was hoping to avoid the spreading of the plague by killing off all potential infected persons.

Lacaine's order[]

When the Corporal was imprisoned after being framed for Anselm's death, the Purities' leader, Rondar Lacaine, appeared in Greyfell's prison. It was just then that the song of wight was heard and the Harbinger noticed that Tahar was hearing it as well. He then ordered him to figure out the origin of the strange disease and if possible to stop it. The Lightbringer stated that a dwarven scholar called Isgrimm might be able to help. Thus the Corporal headed to Farlorn's Hope together with Yria, a fellow inmate from the prison.

There he freed Isgrimm from the Ashreavers and learned about the Shaper city Mulandir which he entered soon after. Inside Isgrimm learned about how the Shapers were able to sustain their enormous empire. By merging their minds into a enormous mind they were able to profit from each other's thoughts. It was then that Isgrimm stated that the solution might be hidden within the Nexus, the source of the Shapers' combined minds.

The Eye's secrets[]

After having reactivated the Nexus once more, Tahar engages the minds once more and heard the Song of the Wight but more clearly than ever before and he even saw some connections to his father's past laboratory at the Eye. It was then that the Corporal went to the swamplands to visit the Eye in search for answers.

Andra as she was found in the laboratory

Within the Eye the Corporal found the body of a woman called Andra. She was lying on some kind of altar without being able to move. She then revealed herself as one of the old Shaper people and also stated that the Corporal was her off-spring. She went pregnant while being calmed with magic by Isamo Tahar and only regained her memories after Isamo's death during the Mage Wars.

She then began to regain her memories and magical abilities soon after and noticed the half-shaper presence of the Corporal. By using her Shaper mind she began calling out to him but she was not aware of the fact that her telepathic call for help was dangerous for all people not gifted with magic.

A short time ago I finally started to... feel. That I could sense your presence, somewhere out there. Thus, I tried to focus my thoughts onto you and sent them out into the world, "telepathy" as you call it. The Song must have been the way the dark corners of my mind expresssed my emotions.

When she heard about this she was terrified about how many people might have died because of her. She never used her telepathy after and thus the Bloodburn was never seen again after this.
