The Grarg were a tribe of orcs originating from Urgath appearing in both SpellForce: The Breath of Winter and briefly in SpellForce: Shadow of the Phoenix.

Background story[]

After the dark races were created by Zarach many orcs found themselves a home in the swamplands of Urgath. Soon after a few orcs decided that together they were more effective in plundering human, dwarven and even elven villages.

The light races of Urgath feared the Grarg because their attacks were frequently causing huge damage to their settlements and not only did they kill many, they abducted people as well. Their fate was to work and die as slaves in the Grarg's mines or to be sold to others.

The Grarg are the biggest living tribe of Orks. Their bloodline spans from Fiara over Urgath to their roots in Xu. The power of the Grarg lies more in numbers than in discipline and tactics. Therefore, many of them have become mercenaries or the allies of major military commanders who profit from their ferocious strength. When they are not going to the war, most Grargs make their living principally by trading with slaves. Other Ork tribes scorn them for this occupation, but they earn enough money and influence to steadily increase their sphere of control.

During the Aryn Crisis[]

When Aryn awoke due to Cenwen's abduction, the Shadow Warrior was travelling the Echo Swamps of Urgath where a huge camp of Grarg slavers was led by the rogue mage Whorim the Black. The Grarg had established a huge fortress there that not even the dark elves and the Winterguard would have found easy to conquer. But with the future Shadow Warrior's rune armies and due to some internal conflict between Whorim, Reowys and a man called Hortar, the fortress fell.

Northern Onyx Shores[]

A couple years after both the Battle of Fiara and the Aryn Crisis the northernmost province of Xu - the Onyx Shores - were under attack by a small division of Grarg fighters led by Grulaman. The were roaming the northern forests and were both threatening the villagers of Elder Tario as well as the Order of Dawn and the rune warrior who attempted to get south to Empyria.
