The Clans are a loose interconnection between the orc tribes led by the Iron Orc, the trolls of the Highmark and the barbarians of the middle mountains in the second SpellForce series. They are one of the five total playable peoples in the second SpellForce series.

Story

After the dark ones had been defeated in the War of the Six Races, their armies dissipated and the survivors founded their settlements all across Fiara. With the dark elves founding their new empire of Lar and the Sharok orcs occupying the north of the great glacier, the southern orcs and trolls had less luck. Their existence had become that of small marauding war troops roaming the country which always had be be wary of the armies of light.

When the Iron Lord came he reunited the wild orc clans under his rule with his words and the slashes of his axe. He led them from the Blackwater Coast through the grasslands of the green lake until the Gate of Swords. Among the former bulwarks of the elves he and his companions found shelter.

There they met with the barbarians of the middle mountains who were driven out of their former home and who were roaming the country without any lead and direction. The Iron Lord brought to them the believe in Zarach and included them under his banner.

And thus the Iron Lord founded a new place for all clans devoted to the blooddrinker Zarach. All of the clans kept their names and their leaders but ever since the Iron Lord's insignia shone above all as the greatest clan ever seen in the south.

Strategic Information

Now following up is all informations regarding the combat units and buildings of the Clans.

Units

The Clans' army is made up from different kinds of units which will be listed below.

Worker

SFUnitClansWorker
The Clans will probably never create huge stone buildings like the humans and dwarves do, but with the craftsmanship of its workers the Iron Storm managed to build solid wooden buildings that almost match the stability of their stone counterparts. Each Orc has to fulfil his commitment, his time as a worker, and thus learn to proceed carefully and cautiously, even if a battle is going on around him.

Archer

SFUnitClansArcher
Many commanders of the Army of Light see it as a wise decision of the Iron Lord to change the old tactics of the Orcs which consisted of quick attacks of a large number of lightly armored short-range fighters. The Iron Lord strengthened the Iron Storm with a strong army of long-range fighters. Even if their bows and shooting skills cannot match the ones of other peoples, the dense arrow clouds from their well filled ranks are a powerful means against the former superiority of the Peoples of the Light in long-range fights.

Mercenary

SFUnitClansMercenaries
They are the basic close combat units of the Clans. For the young warriors of the smaller Orc tribes in the South of Fiara it is not unusual to travel around and to hire out as warriors to other tribes. Their armor usually is a wild patchwork of captured armor plates and as weapons they carry clubs instead of blades. But for every young Orc the mercenary time counts as a blood challenge and so the wildness and enthusiasm of the mercenaries more than compensates their bad equipment.

Osal, the oldest one of the Iron Storm has recovered the secret of the Flame of Agnar from the tombs of the first Shamans. It bestows the Shamans with the understanding of the being of all things and also enables them to detect the hidden things.

Veteran

SFUnitClansVeteran
True to the tradition of the Black Legion the rank of a Veteran is the highest rank an Orc warrior can achieve. The best armor and weapons of the clan are at their disposal and every lower warrior bows his head in awe in front of them. Their thundering pace is the heartbeat of the Clans armies and their shining armors are the hammers that blow down on the ambos of the ranks of the Light.

Totem

SFUnitClansTotem
When in the ritual of the Red Night an Orc dedicates his body and mind to Zarach, the power of the blood drinker penetrates him through and through. In this very night the Orc either suffers a brutal death screaming or, if he proves to be worthy, Zarachs power turns his body into a bloodthirsty monster that soon rises high into the air on the lookout for prey for the insatiable god. The claws of the Totems cause awful wounds, but they are their only weapons, so they cannot attack from a greater distance.

Hurler

SFUnitClansHurler
A heavy boulder is almost tradition when it comes to the choice of a proper projectile for a pair of strong Troll arms. But under the command of the Iron Lord huge wooden portable catapults were built for the Troll Hurlers of the Iron Storm. They intensify the power of their arms, so they can hurl their lethal projectiles farther and more exactly than many an arrow will fly.

Devastator

SFUnitClansDevastator
With the mighty swings of his trunk this huge Troll warrior blows down several opponents in one go. He might be quite clumsy, but that is exactly why in a dense battle he becomes a lethal threat. At least the Troll knows that much: Hardly anybody can keep up with him when it comes to height and strength, so why should he hurry?

Fire Catapult

SFUnitClansFireCatapult
From a large distance these heavy catapults hurl burning boulders into the legions and against the enemy defence lines, where they explode with devastating splash damage. The Fire Catapult is slow and a cleverly used close combat unit can easily take it out. But as long as it attacks from the distance, it seals the fate of every enemy tower.

Axewielder

SFUnitClansAxeThrower
The axe is the life of a Barbarian of the West. It is the bride of a true warrior and his steady companion. The father forges the blade, the mother’s hair is wrapped around the handle and the names of the forefathers ornament the blade. This weapon is the only thing that accompanies the son to his name consecration into the pit of wild dogs. Only a boy that instinctively knows how to use his weapon will be allowed to go with the Iron Storm. The others will be left in the mud as sacrifices to the Blood God.

Spiritist

SFUnitClansSpiritist
He is a battlemage that flies on a griffon over the battlefield and destroys the enemies of the Clans in the air and on the ground in a storm of the elements. The Barbarians of the West might be thought of as primitive, but the force of their wild magic can easily compare with high Elemental magic. It was also the nature-loving Spiritists of the Westmen Barbarians that once forged the bond between the Humans and the griffons. Still to this day the griffons are their confidants and their companions.

Berserk

SFUnitClansBerserk
He is the mightiest close combat fighter of the Clans, his two hand axe tears disastrous gaps into the hordes of opponents. The Berserks dedicate their bodies to the Blood God Zarach and their absolute dedication lets them forget about pain and danger. If a Barbarian warrior chooses the path of a Berserk, his relatives start singing a requiem. If he survives the cruel Berserk consecration, his only true homelands will be the battlegrounds, for the sake of the Blood God.

Ragefire (Titan)

SFUnitClansTitan
The Ragefire is half demon, half elemental being, formed out of the fire of the Bloodgod Zarach and the inexhaustible wildness of the orcs. He is the symbol of battle wrath and as long as there is war in Eo his flames will always find enough hatred for nourishment. The blades of the Ragefire are also called "The fangs of Zarach". The soul of the one that got killed by them will belong to the Blooddrinker forever. They walk through the hordes of their enemies like Grim Reapers, on a soul harvest for their god and for the glory of their Clans. Those who are not killed by their blades are overtaken by the fiery death they constantly cast on their enemies around them.
