Moonsilver is a rare and precious resource that could be found in mines below the surface of Eo.

Background information[]

The metal in its refined form is so bright that it seems to be white in the first SpellForce series just like silver. It was much purer than iron and even adamantinum although it required a master blacksmith to fully uncover the moonsilver's full potential.

The Norcaine's appreciation[]

Because of their devotion to the silverweaver Nor the dark elves honor moonsilver as a material blessed by Nor's magic. Imbued with powerful enchantments only the most recognised fighters of the Dracon and Sinistra caste were allowed to don moonsilver-made armors and weapons. Mostly moonsilver is being used to forge small talismans with minor magic abilities to protect the Norcaine while also being a constant reminder to honor the faith to Nor.

Dwarves' artisanship[]

Because of their extraordinary craftsmanship the dwarves of Eo were the first to recognize the moonsilver's ability to be forged in one of the sturdiest alloys ever seen while also keeping its flexibility and light-weight. The blacksmiths forged powerful armors for high-ranked members of their society in Windholme and Fastholme that could withstand an otherwise lethal blow with ease.

Moonsilver is rare and difficult to work, but it is the culmination of any warrior’s career to one day forge his own armour and weapons from this precious metal. It is a long and arduous path that leads this dream’s fulfilment, however, a path lined with many victorious battles and deep devotion to the god Niethalf
— Official description

After a blacksmith was done with his work on a moonsilver-made item the elders and priests of Niethalf would take over and enhance the moonsilver even further. With their magic gifts and by carving in protective runes, they would create a magically-enhanced metal called Lightsilver. Said alloy not only protects from physical blows but also has the effect to resist magic-based attacks and curses with ease.

The house of Hallit[]

HouseHallit

The house of Hallit was a royal house of Nortander who was known for selling their dwarven brothers moonsilver in their name.

Most moonsilver could only be found in the Windwall Mountains and the Grimwarg Mountains which was home to the dwarves of Windholme and Fastholme. Except for the Glittering Mine of Everlight there was almost no known deposit that would give a huge supply of this rare metal.

For a long time it was believed that moonsilver, the most precious and durable ore of Eo, could only be mined in the Windwall Mountains, the empire of the dwarves. All this changed when an unsuspecting farmer found a piece of the shimmering ore while digging a well. A gold rush followed and Everlight, back then a modest town, grew into the metropolis it is today. The mine was depleted decades ago but the wealth remained.

But after the mine was depleted all moonsilver originated from the dwarven empires and they were extremely stingy in selling it to outsiders. The only known exception was the house of Hallit who shared a life-long blood bond with Windholme. All moonsilver that would leave the Windwall Mountains first had to go through the house of Hallit's territory and thus they amassed a huge wealth by selling the metal.

Moonsilver in Real Time Strategy[]

SFMedia Havok

A Havoc in the first SpellForce series using moonsilver-made gear

Both the dwarven and dark elven rune army in the first SpellForce series used moonsilver to create their elite units.

It was a high-ranked resource to create potent fighters such as Havocs, Deathknights, Elites and Elders although it was used in minor alloys used to create weapons for the Defenders and Battlemasters too.
