After Corporal Tahar had acquired reinforcements for either the Wayfarers, the Morhir or the Firewielders, he would then proceed with the plan of dealing with the Purity of Light. To break their rule over the royal houses of Nortander, the mind-control over Lady Myrah Utran had to be broken.

Making a stand in the Iskander Wilds[]

Angar Arandir and Corporal Tahar thus went to the Iskander Wilds which was the closest area to the Utran lands. The former Lord Marshal was extremely sure that if Corporal Tahar would take Fortress Vastel from the Purity of Light and make a stand here, this provocation would not remain unanswered. Lady Myrah Utran would have to appear on the battlefield personally with her house's army.

Luring out the Utranian forces[]

At first the Fortress Vastel which was first taken by the royal army during the Mage Wars was now under control of the Purity of Light fanatics. Corporal Tahar led his forces towards the bulwark and after tough fights, he was able to break through and took control over the former house of Vastel's castle.

Angar Arandir and Corporal Tahar then had another short briefing about the upcoming fight. The strategist warned the Corporal that taking the fortress had been an easy task compared to holding it against a full force attacks led by the Purity of Light and the Utrans. Corporal Tahar now had to prepare his sectors and his armies to be able to withstand the incoming attack waves that would arrive in a short amount of time.

We need to make a stand here. Like this, the castle will not hold a minute against a full-fledged assault by the Utran forces. And I am sure those soldiers who fled have already notified Myrah. [...] Lets hope it will be a while before they strike back - the more time we have to prepare, the better.

After the time had passed, the next phase of the plan would begin. Lord Marshal Angar Arandir would take control over all bases and soldiers originally following Corporal Tahar and with the units at his disposal he would fight the Utranian forces and the fanatics. The Corporal now had to meet with a spy called Herveus who was supposed to have intel about how to get past the border.

As soon as the Purity strikes, there will be no more time for that - you and your strike team have to move quickly. In other words: This is our last chance to make fortifications. And the longer we can hold them back, the more time you will have to locate the rune carriers

Meeting with Herveus[]

The spymaster Herveus told Corporal Tahar that the border to the Utranian lands were closed during the past weeks. However there were some secret tunnels that were used in old smuggling business but said tunnels were closed too and Herveus had no ways of opening them. In the southeastern area of the Iskander Wilds a fugitive could be found next to the area where Clara Farlorn had put up a camp during The Refugees.

Corporal Tahar could obtain a key from the former smuggler but at first would need to help him getting back his personal belongings. Alternatively if Corporal Tahar was accompanied by Uram, Gor, or Ianna, these would be able to intimidate him. Then he would hand over the key without the requirement to search for his belongings.

Going against the Lightbringers[]

Once Corporal Tahar had found one of the secret tunnels he would need to send one of his companions ahead through the tunnels. Said companion then would be unavailable for a short time but after he or she resurfaced beyond the borders and would need to activate one of the Godstones. Corporal Tahar could then utilize another Godstone to meet up with his companion.

From the tunnel entrance Corporal Tahar then had to march towards the west where he then found Lady Myrah Utran in the campsite formerly inhabited by Commander Theon. Two Lightbringers were accompanying her and were attacking the approaching Corporal. After a tough fight they were defeated and Lady Myrah Utran had to be ordered to stop the attack.

I command my men to lay down their weapons and to stop the assault on the fortress. The Utran house is now no longe rallied with the Purity, but with Nortander.

Conclusion at Mulandir[]

After having returned to Mulandir, a discussion took place in the Nexus of Mulandir. Angar Arandir was demanding immediate action from Isgrimm. The dwarf should destroy the rune immediately to ensure that Lady Myrah could no longer be mind-controlled. He would be hesitant first and ask Corporal Tahar for a talk next to the core. There he would demand that the rune should remain intact as he had found out the truth behind the shaper empire's secrets of peacefulness. They had adjusted the minds of criminals or enemies instead of just killing them off. Isgrimm wanted to research the rune and asked Corporal Tahar to cooperate with this.

The shapers ... I finally understand their secret. Why they persisted for so long, why, during their reign, there was not a single power who dared to defy them, not even the dragons. [...] The best thing about it? The controlled did not even suffer. They merely had their views adjusted and continued to live a normal life.
Isgrimm revealing his insights

Depending on the relationship with Isgrimm, Corporal Tahar could either convince Isgrimm into destroying the rune willingly or he would need to force Isgrimm. If Corporal Tahar had never talked with Isgrimm during Echoes of the Past, he would refuse to accept any instructions and would start a fight with the Corporal.

With Myrah's current state of mind, she cannot help us win over the other houses and without them, we will never recapture Greykeep. Lacaine would win!
Corporal Tahar urging Isgrimm to help

After Isgrimm's defeat he would destroy the rune but then would be mad and would leave Corporal Tahar's side forever. This would also terminate all Isgrimm-related quests such as Echoes of the Past or Remnants of the Old.

After Lady Myrah Utran had been freed, this would lead to a major discussion in the Nexus. Angar Arandir, High-Keeper Arenor and Corporal Tahar would discuss about the next steps. With the house of Utran having been liberated the two greatest threats were no Rondar Lacaine's Iron Ones and the house of Leonidar which was led by Amaria Leonidar. This would start the quests Prison of the Mind and Claimed Souls which need to be completed before continuing with Brave New World.

Tips and tricks[]

  • The more reinforcements you have obtained during the three previous quests the larger the army available at the start of the mission will be. If having completed all three quests then the army would probably already suffice to break through the blockade at Fortress Vastel.
  • Whether Isgrimm stays or leaves highly depends on the amount of interaction during previous encounters and on the language chosen during the dialogue with Isgrimm. Even if you were previously on good terms with him, you can still make him leave if you attack him personally during the chosen dialogue sequence.
A shame, really. He had his head in the clouds but he was a good companion and a good fighter. I guess we will have do without him.
